Baseball and Life Lessons

I’m pretty sure I’m not the first to realize how many metaphors one can use to compare baseball to life. This year, for our oldest, baseball has definitely brought some teachable moments. He has worked hard. The team has worked hard. Some of them have learned a lot. They’ve practiced and try to go out on the field with positive attitudes. And yet, the team has not been successful by the usual standards. And I think life is like that too. Try as you may, do your best, work hard, put on a smile – do all the right things. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll succeed at your goals. But here’s the thing. You’ve got to keep trying. And you have to keep on doing your best, because that is what helps define you, that’s what helps you be a better person and maybe even a better baseball player.
