I hate to dig in dirt. I mean really – I hate it. Some of you are scoffing. Here’s the thing. My mom is gardener. My grandmother is a master gardener. My great-grandmother – she practically invented the garden. I always kind of assumed it would come naturally to me. After all, gardening is genetic, isn’t it? Apparently not. Or maybe it skips every fourth generation. Yeah, that’s it. So anyway, back to my original point. I hate to dig in dirt. Fortunately, I really, really like color. I love the way that flowers pop in my front yard. I like the greens, reds, whites look against the pretty dark mulch. (Oh and I really like garden decorations but that a whole other obsession.) I have two flower beds in my front yard and another new one in the back where the sun bakes everything to a crisp every afternoon. So yes, I guess that means I will continue to dig in dirt, get my nails dirty (blech!), get hot and sweaty and track mulch through my house.  All that sacrifice for a little color. Is it worth it? I think so. I don’t have any fancy pants flowers, but I think they are pretty. One of my favorites are marigolds, because I remember my mom always planted them in the spring and did I mention that I love ORANGE!

Marigolds. I love ‘em. Look there’s a bonus bug on the top flower.

Looks huge, but it’s just a little pretty pansy!

I love these flowers. Actually it’s a hanging plant in the back and I haven’t a clue what it is.

Here’s another super close-up!

I don’t remember what this one is either, but I think it looks really cool.

Ah another hanging plant. I love the pretty white ones. Look there’s one of my little turtles peeking in.

Of course, this love for color translates very well to the things I actually like. Like digital scrapbooking and sewing, both of which require absolutely no dirt at all. Lucky me!
